Salini Impregilo Group set to start work on I-405 in Washington State

PRESS NOTES

Milan, November 14, 2019 – Lane, a U.S. company that is part of the Salini Impregilo Group, is set to start work on a $705-million contract to widen a highway and install a dual express toll system between the I-405/SR interchange in Renton and NE 6th Street in Bellevue, one of the most travelled and congested corridors of the U.S. state of Washington. It is the second contract won by Lane in the state following the awarding of the construction of a $255-million water storage tunnel.

Work on the corridor, for which Lane has received a Notice to Proceed, will be done by a joint-venture between Lane with a 40% stake and Flatiron West, is expected to start in early 2020 and be completed in 2024.

The contract reconfirms Lane’s leadership as a highway contractor in the United States. It has nearly a billion dollars’ worth of active roadway contracts in the North Carolina market, $404 million in California, and $253 million in Florida for the construction of part of the Florida Wekiva Parkway.

It marks the Group’s expansion in the United States, its single biggest market by revenue. At the end of June, it generated 22% of the total compared with 3% in 2014. This growth falls in line with the launch of Progetto Italia (Project Italy), an industrial operation led by Salini Impregilo to consolidate the Italian infrastructure sector in order to compete better in international markets. The Group recently returned to Canada with the awarding of a €917-million contract for a light transit line. It also involves Astaldi, which is becoming part of Progetto Italia.
