Salini Impregilo Group to renovate United Nations offices in Geneva

PRESS RELEASES

MILAN, November 19, 2019 - CSC Impresa Costruzioni SA of the Salini Impregilo Group will take part in the renovation works of the Palais des Nations Historical Buildings of the United Nations in Geneva in a project with a total value of 270 million Swiss francs (about €245 million). The project reinforces CSC’s presence in Switzerland and confirms the Group’s focus on markets with a low risk profile and a good potential for growth. Some 85% of new orders obtained in the first nine months of the year have come from Australia, North America and Europe.

CSC, in a joint-venture with CMB Società Cooperativa Muratori e Braccianti di Carpi and Italiana Costruzioni S.p.A., is to take part in the restructuring work for about €60 million. The historic buildings will be fully renovated, with priority given to protecting the heritage of the Palais des Nations, while modernizing the core building and conference support systems, improving working conditions and life safety, and accessibility for persons with disabilities. It will include renovating the work spaces, improving the energy efficiency of the structure, and removing harmful materials used during the construction of the Palais des Nations, the second largest UN centre after the headquarters in New York. The work will be done while the offices remain in full operation.

Built between 1929 and 1936 for the League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations, it is one of the most active centres for multilateral diplomacy in the world, comprising 34 conference rooms and hosting about 12,000 meetings per year for more than 75,000 delegates and 100,000 visitors.

Founded in 1960, CSC is involved in more than 30 projects, including a residential and commercial district in Lausanne. It has taken part in major public works such as the Verzasca dam and the Saint Gotthard Base Tunnel, the longest railway tunnel in the world at 57 kilometres.

The Salini Impregilo Group is among the leaders in the construction of civil buildings, having built airports, commercial centres, university campuses, government buildings, hospitals and cultural centres throughout the world.
