Milan, May 31, 2019 - In an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Salini Impregilo Chief Executive Officer Pietro Salini discusses the strategy behind “Progetto Italia”, a plan drafted to create a national giant that, with its greater scale, can lend support to a recovery in the construction sector in Italy and be more competitive abroad.
In order to make this giant a reality and create value for Salini Impregilo and the country, Salini said the company was ready also to give up its name and assume another one, that would be shared with all those who believe in this vision, whether they be entrepreneurial or institutional players.
Progetto Italia is an industrial operation to be executed over the long term. It aims to combine in a single group the best players of the Italian infrastructure sector. It would help guarantee a recovery in the sector in Italy, while getting the country to unblock work sites in 14 regions worth a combined €36 billion. In the coming years, the group would contribute to the creation of 400,000 jobs and add 0.3% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
It would have €12-14 billion in revenues and an order book of about €60 billion. Thanks to its size and all the expertise it will have gathered, the group would be more competitive in international markets, and be able to seize the best opportunities.
