The Gilgel Gibe scheme whose main purpose is the generation of power includes the construction of a rockfill dam, a 9 Km long power tunnel (provided with a 140 m deep surge shaft), an linder ground powerhouse for an installed capacity of 210 MW, a switchyard, and ancillary works.

The project implementation is divided into nine Contracts.Lot 5 is the contract for the construction of the embankment dam.
