The Las Portas dam handles the water from the Camba and Conso rivers and forms the headwater basin of the Sil river hydroelectric complex.
It is a concrete arch dam, 141 m high.
It feeds the underground Villarino del Conso power plant, which houses three generator units each with a power rating of 76 MW.
The faults found in the siliceous slate formation of the gorge where the dam is located required complex reconstruction work on the rock, including underground.
