The San Juan de los Morros - Dos Caminos - Calabozo - San Fernando de Apure section of railway line is 252.095 km long and is part of the national transport railway system designed to create an intermodal passenger and goods transport system which combines the various means, encouraging the social and economic development of the region, especially the south of the country.

The project involves the definitive design plan; the construction of the civil works (tunnels, viaducts, bridges, terrepleins, and various minor and drainage works); the construction of stations, exchange stations, buildings, laboratories and sheds; and the installation of the railway line.

The line has a single track with an international gauge of 1.435 metres and a maximum gradient of 1.8%.
